DIY Free Pattern Shipwreck Shawl. Reblogged from someone else earlier, but I always wanted to show the different angles of this amazing scarf with 5000 optional Czech glass seed beads. Designed and modeled by Bethany Kok. Free Pattern with tons of advice from Knitty here ie placing of the beads, dyeing etc… *Not for the faint of heart.

Oh my, this is amazing!

Today I’d like to share Helen’s work…

Helen bought some of my Alpaca tops at http://sarastexturecrafts.com/category/206-felt-making-and-spinning-shop.aspx and hand spun a finer yarn than needed for the shawl pattern, as a way to aid the lacy effect she wanted. Helen commented that she found the Alpaca very rewarding to spin, although not the easiest fibre for her. I’m also the same with pure Alpaca, instead prefering to use it as a highlight blend… but there are many spinners who love to spin pure alpaca, including direct from the fleece. I would definately recommend trying it in top form if it is your first time and Helen found an easier draw from spinning from a 15” length, split lengthwise into 10 mini-tops… a finer top width in your hand can be easier to draw from on long staple fibres. It can also make lace spinning so much easier.

Isn’t it beautiful?

If you’d like to try out the knitting pattern, it is called ‘Shaelyn’ by Leila Raabe and is available on Ravelry for $5.

Thank you for sharing Helen!
